Barrow Lifeboat Called to Assist Paddle Boarders

Volunteer crew from Barrow’s Lifeboat Station launched their inshore lifeboat this afternoon to go to the aid of two paddle boarders in Walney Channel.

The call for assistance came from the regional HM Coastguard base in Holyhead at 1-45pm this afternoon following a call from a member of the public who was concerned about the paddle boarders who were in the vicinity of Ridge Buoy in Walney Channel.

The crew was paged and the inshore lifeboat, ‘Vision of Tamworth’, was launched at 2-02pm with Andy Baxter at the helm, assisted by Saul Tomlin and Mike Harris. The lifeboat was quickly on the scene and established that the two male paddle boarders were both fine and confirmed that they were happy to make their own way back to Roa Island.

With no further assistance required, the lifeboat was able to return to the boathouse where it was washed down and prepared for the next launch.

The weather at the time of the incident was overcast. The wind was westerly, Force 4, with the high tide due at 3-22pm with a predicted height of 9.2 metres.
