CCC launches new awards initiative offering local schools the chance to win up to £2,500

Cumbria County Council's Virtual School is inviting local schools to enter The Cumbria Pupil Premium Plus Awards and be in with the chance of winning a number of cash prizes, including £2,500 for winning schools in north, west and south Cumbria.

The Cumbria Pupil Premium Plus Awards is a new initiative in Cumbria and has launched in a bid to encourage the county’s schools to share how they are using Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) grants.

The money funds a wide range of educational and developmental support for children and young people who are looked after.

Cllr Sue Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning, said: “The awards are a new way for us to recognise and celebrate schools in Cumbria who are using their Pupil Premium Plus grants in innovative and impactful ways.

“We can’t wait to see the entries and we hope to share the best examples wider so all schools and settings become aware of the creative and effective ways to use the grants, in order to improve educational outcomes for children and young people who are looked after.”

Cumbria County Council’s Virtual School supports children looked after from the Early Years Foundation Stage (4 year olds) up to 18 years old. They ensure that all children looked after gain swift access to appropriate educational provision, and that they are well supported to make good progress, and participate in activities to gain the skills and qualifications needed to make a successful step into adult life.

Schools can find out more and enter the awards now at www.cumbria.gov.uk/PPPAwards, entries must be submitted by Friday 20 September 2019.
