Cumbria Car Centre celebrates 20 years in business
Graham and Doug Latimer set up Cumbria Car Centre back in the year 2000, their aim was to give customers a high level of service at an affordable price, by applying the best available equipment on the market to repairing their vehicles combined with their joint experience.
When Doug sadly passed away, Graham continued with the company pushing forward with the latest MOT testing equipment and also with new digital diagnostic technology. The objective was to give the customer the best experience they could have and to take the pressure away from costly and unnecessary car repairs.
Graham Latimer, owner and director of Cumbria Car Centre told us “With over 36 years as a motor mechanic and MOT tester, I have seen a lot of changes during this time. The biggest change so far is developments in vehicle diagnostics and electric cars. Therefore, we have needed to invest in new technology and expanded our knowledge in this field in order to keep up with the demands of fixing the latest motor cars”.
Graham explained “We are proud to be a member of industry recognised organisations, Retail Motor Industry (RMI), The Good Garage Scheme and Trust My Garage. Being affiliated to the RMI certifies we are approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and enable customers to have confidence within our abilities.
“On a personal note I have always wanted to work in the field of motor cars having grown up surrounded by them in my parents garage. I undertook an apprenticeship under my father’s guidance as soon as I left school. My thirst for knowledge in the field growing all the time.
In my spare time I became involved with Rallying and was a co-driver in a Mk2 Ford Escort, we were even fortunate to enter the County Motors Championship.
A rally team from the Isle of Man offered me a service crew job for the weekends and I was there like shot and had a fantastic time. The car they rallied was a group B Opal Manta, and we participated in events at Aberdeen and Bournemouth, they were brilliant times and further built on my skills and knowledge.
“I have also worked at a couple of other local garages which additionally involved the requirement to work on large vehicles, trucks, and fleet rescue. Working closely with the RAC, the AA and Green Flag and MOT testing all different vehicle classes was a great learning opportunity. But when the prospect to again work with my father and become self-employed arose I jumped at the chance. Twenty years later I can still say we are still committed to continually serving our customers. We also work closely with other garages in the area. Referring our customers to them if required for their expertise to ensure the customer receives the best possible outcome. Always maintaining our commitment to providing excellent customer care.
“I believe the future of Cumbria Car Centre is strong and myself and team want to continue to develop our services and I can promise further investment for the future. Many of our customers are still with us from the early days which is a huge compliment and I would like to thank them all for their continued and ongoing support. Their feedback (we have received in excess of 200 comments via the Good Garage Scheme and Google) is both humbling and inspirational and this gives us the drive to continually develop and improve”.
