Ding! Ding! Routes mobile bar celebrates her first year in business.

The big red double decker bus attended her first event at Another Fine Fest in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength in popularity which is no surprise really as she certainly stands out from the crowd.

Routes owner Bryn Tyson said: “Ever since I was a boy I had always wanted to run a bar from some sort of vehicle. The bus was originally owned by Arriva then it was sold to a few other companies and ended up with Pilkingtons of Accrington. When Pilkingtons decided to upgrade they had three buses for sale, the lucky one that was chosen became Routes mobile bar and became a fantastic project enabling me to fulfil my childhood dreams. It’s great to have preserve this period of bus. It takes me back to my childhood and I have given it a new lease of life.

“The bus is available to hire for any type of event including outdoor music events, which can be really handy if the pub’s bar is too small to cope with the demand. Wedding parties are also popular too, everyone loves the novelty of being able to get a drink from the side of a bus. It can be either a fully stocked bar selling beer, cider, cocktails, spirits and soft drinks, or it can be used to serve tea and coffee depending on the needs of the customer. It is available to hire throughout in the Northwest or even slightly further afield. The bottom deck is the bar area, so you can either come up to the side of the bus to get a drink, or on some events the top deck is open with about twenty five seats for people to sit and look across the event field.

“We have had some hilarious moments when we are out and about. People often stick their arms out to flag us down as we approach their bus stop. Routes still gets mistaken for a normal service bus and we have had some funny looks when we drive past without stopping. We are not available for transport services, we can only come along and set up at an event as a static bar. Future plans are to purchase a single decker friend for Routes, which will be ideal for smaller events or to help as a second bar at bigger events.

“The best thing about owning a bus, apart from it being fun to drive and being a little more funky than your average catering van, is that out of season we can use it as a camper van!”
