Exciting times ahead for Barrow's outdoor market
Work commenced yesterday to remove the front pitches from Barrow's outdoor market.
Barrow BID together with Barrow Borough Council are creating an outdoor area for community events, pop up marquee’s and vans.
The back stalls are staying in place for regular outdoor traders to use as normal every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday,
Colin Garnet, Manager of Barrow BID said: "Phase 1 of the regeneration of Barrow's Outdoor Market space has started with the removal of the front metal frame by Barrow Council.
"This area has been identified as important for regeneration, as the current paving and metal frames are of poor quality and require replacement.
"The removal of the front metal frames will stop birds from roosting, which will create a cleaner environment for the current market traders and it will enable market traders with gazebos and small trailers to trade from the outdoor market area.
"This provides outdoor traders with an opportunity to attend Barrow BID's two summer events, so if you would like to apply for an outdoor market pitch at the Soapbox Event on 29th June or the Festival of Transport on 20th July, then please contact Jacqui Armstrong: firstname.lastname@example.org
"Huge thanks to Barrow Council for the improvement works on Barrow's Outdoor Market."
