Furness College to showcase its state-of-the art facilities to future students
Furness College is throwing open its doors at the end of this month to showcase its state-of-the art facilities to future students.
The college will hold an Open Day on Saturday June 26th at its Channelside campus for people to find out more about its professional and technical courses, through to more than 20 A level subjects and higher education courses.
Visitors will have a chance to tour the campus from 10am to 2pm, meet staff and speak to students about their route to apprenticeships, university or future careers.
Furness College Principal and Chief Executive Professor Andrew Wren said the events are open to anyone from Year 10 and Year 11 pupils through to adults who want to enhance their career prospects.
“It has been a tough few terms in education, particularly for the Year 11 pupils who are leaving school this week and may have not had a chance to step inside the college where they are hoping to study in September.
“We are delighted to have this opportunity to meet our future students. It is the first Open Day we have had since November 2019 and we encourage them to come along to see inside the classrooms and workshops where they will learn and meet our wonderful tutors.
It’s also a good chance for people who are thinking about a career change to come along and get some advice about courses that can support them into new roles.”
The college will launch its new marketing campaign – Of Course You Can – at the event.
Marketing and Communications Manager Kathryn Farrow said: “We are excited to open our campuses once again and meet our future students face to face.
“We have the biggest choice of courses in Cumbria with a course for every learner ranging from BTECs and CTECs to A levels and new T levels. We will also be unveiling our new campaign, which captures the idea that on the right course with the right support and the right attitude, students can reach their career aspirations.”
Subjects available at Furness College include hair and beauty, business and accounting, catering, construction, education, engineering, health and social care, IT, media, motor vehicle, public services and sport, including the football academy in partnership with Barrow AFC. In addition, there are more than 20 A level subjects available at the Rating Lane sixth form campus and new T Levels alongside animal management courses in partnership with Myerscough College.
In addition to the Channelside Open Day, the college is running Year 11 ‘Experience Sixth Form’ days at the Rating Lane campus in conjunction with local schools including Dowdales, Chetwynde, St Bernard’s, Furness Academy, Walney School, Millom School, Ulverston Victoria High School and John Ruskin.
It will give pupils in Year 11 who are thinking about studying at sixth form the chance to spend an afternoon as a sixthformer, try a taster A Level and speak to current students about courses and college life at a subject fair.
