Graduates from University of Cumbria are among thenew employees who joined BAE in Barrow this week

The group, who will work in a variety of specialist areas, began their induction on Monday at the Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge (SASK) and brings to 77 the number of graduates now in training in Barrow.

Business technology graduate Rebekah Young, 20, from Ayrshire in Scotland, will be working in project management and says it was listening to her sister's submariner husband that first ignited her interest in the business.

Colleague Fraser Minnican has just completed a degree in aeronautical engineering at Loughborough University and joins as an engineering graduate.

The 24-year-old swam for Barrow Amateur Swimming Club and has represented England. He also swam in Olympic trials where he excelled in medley and freestyle.

Fraser is following his father and grandfather's footsteps into the Barrow shipyard and says he's looking forward to joining the company: "It's a great place to live and BAE Systems is a great place to work.

I have been away for five years studying and I'm really looking forward to starting. I'm hoping to come in and make a difference and add value to whatever I'm working on."

Former law lecturer Thomas Moor has joined as a graduate project manager. Originally from County Durham, the University of Cumbria law graduate joins after time spent teaching law in Barrow.

The 27 year old said: "The opportunity to join a team was one I couldn’t resist. Project management offers the chance to experience a variety of roles, different departments and platforms as well as a chance to go deeper and higher within the business."

Stephanie Hanson, from Hertfordshire, completed a degree in educational and English studies at Durham University before going on to complete an MA in English.

She has a passion for learning processes and is hoping to develop her HR skills as well as enjoying living locally and spending time in the Lake District.

The 22-year-old added: "I want to help people reach their potential. I also think it is important to have exposure to everything in HR so I'm able to deliver and make sure I have a full skillset.

"It's a fantastic area to live in and BAE Systems is a great company to work for and provides a real opportunity for me to develop and learn."
