Local Teen Is King of Karting As Fast Paced Hobby Pushes Him To The Max
Karting has been a huge part of Max Davies life after he started racing at the tender age of seven.
The exciting sport has opened doors of opportunity for the Barrow lad, as he raced in the Italian finals earlier this month.
HuddleHub spoke to Robin Davies, who is Max’s dad and karting partner: “My Son, Max Davies is 15 years old and goes to Furness Academy. He raced in the ROK Super Finals in "Franciacorta", Italy this month, and was up against some of the best drivers in the World in Team GB. It went OK, but Max struggled to get on the pace as he'd not raced abroad before, and he was up against some of the best drivers in the world. Unfortunately it didn’t end as well as he would have liked, after the engine developed a misfire and he had to retire on Lap 11 out of 20, meaning he came 29th out of 34 drivers in the Final.
“Although Max is still in year 11 at Furness Academy, he qualified for the competition after finishing 5th in the Superone British Karting Championships in 2020.
"He has been racing Karts since he was 7 years old, and his local track is at Rowrah in Cumbria. Max is only fifteen years old but races in the SENIOR ROK class against mostly adults.
"He also races in the Senior Rotax class when he's not racing in ROK. He races all over the country including Wales and Scotland.
"Max’s kart is powered by a VORTEX ROK GP 125cc water cooled engine, which produces around 36HP engine and will reach speeds of well over 75mph and he hits over 3 G Force in some of the corners.
"We both enjoy karting, it’s a great hobby that we both share a passion for.”
