Nuffield's friendly staff want to help you look good and feel great for 2020
With springtime just around the corner and summer holidays booked, this is the busiest time for gyms, as people flock to classes and queue for their turn on the treadmill.
Sometime we need to treat our bodies to a little TLC rather than forcing them to work harder. That’s why Nuffield’s holistic approach is different to any other gym.
Specialising in health and wellbeing as opposed to just fitness makes Nuffield unique as well as being the largest not-for-profit healthcare provider in the UK. Although locally they appear to be a gym, their national estate is made up of clinics, physio’s and includes thirty one private hospitals. They are the largest employer of physiotherapists in the country outside of the NHS.
Being a wellbeing centre means that Nuffield offer a wide variety of activities as well as exercising in the gym or taking part in an exercise class. It’s great to have a one stop shop that can offer beauty treatments including massages, body scrubs & wraps, hand and foot treatments, hair removal, eyelash treatments, anti-ageing treatments and much, much more.
They also sell a wide range of elemis, Jessica and Ellison products.
The pool hall facilities include a 20x8 meter pool which is 1.2 meters deep; a hot spa, steam room and a sauna. For those who can’t swim they also offer child and adult swimming lessons.
Fancy a coffee? Why not pop into the Café. The lounge area offers a selection of delicious food along with the Costa drinks range and is open to non-members. There is also a TV, a selection of daily newspapers and free wifi available to make your visit more enjoyable.
The Barrow centre currently have two flagship programmes underway including their School Wellbeing Activity Programme which includes visits to schools and talking to the children about nutrition, exercise, mental health and exercise.
The Cystic Fibrosis exercise programme offers any child undertaking cystic fibrosis treatment in the NHS can be referred to their local Nuffield Gym to continue and progress with this treatment for free.
Barrow offers both of these programmes, and they are free, absolutely no charge whatsoever.
There is also a joint pain and stamina programme in the pipeline for Barrow so keep a look out for the launch date.
Having a medical background means that Nuffield also offer a free health MOT once you become a member, which is totally unique in the fitness industry and includes taking blood samples, looking at cholesterol and sugar levels plus another eight tests to assess your wellbeing which is printed out for members to take home. The tests often prove to be the primary motivator for people to either exercise, diet or relax more.
Nuffield offer a “Meet the Expert” event every three months where free advice and guidance is available to members and their guests on a variety of topics, which is great if you have a particular concern that you are unsure about.
Over forty friendly staff work at the Nuffield centre, including beauticians, food and beverage staff, swimming coaches, personal trainers, gym Instructors, physiotherapist, cleaning team, group exercise Instructors, lifeguards, receptionists and engineers, plus it’s headed up by an experienced management team who have over 100 year experience working in the fitness Industry.
All staff are DBS checked and have to complete and pass over 20 on-line modules ranging from customer service and food hygiene to pool plant management and data protection. All staff are basic life support trained, with most also being defibrillator trained.
David Marks, Nuffield’s General Manager is happy for people to pop along to the club for a look around and grab a coffee, or to have a full workout, a swim and sauna. David told us “Most people who come in are surprised at how friendly and relaxed it is. We want to get away from that traditional gym image. We don’t need to do the hard sell technique as the club sells itself.
“Come along for a free visit and try us out, you won’t be disappointed”
