Round House to open as new community hub
ZEST have the keys and work will soon start to transform the former Chinese restaurant into a new community hub.
The Round House has been sat empty for over 2 years and the new lease of life will see the building being used for many different community activities.
ZEST is a not for profit community interest company which was formed by local people to help make Furness a cleaner, greener and safer place for people to live, work and visit, whilst also bringing the community together.
Wonderful volunteers have taken part in ZEST litter picking events, and have so far removed over 400 bags of rubbish from areas around Barrow. The group have also been out road sweeping, pressure washing and sign cleaning. And now the group plan to transform the Round House into a welcoming community hub, another positive change in the community.
HuddleHub also plan to move their offices into the Round House, making their services more available to the community.
The building will also provide a base for a 'Barracudas' style group, which will include music, costume design and stilt walking, etc.
Matt Blackburn, Operations Manager of ZEST said: "We are really focused on bringing the community together and helping make positive changes.
"The Round House will be our base and will be a building for the community.
"We would like a weekly calendar of activities for all ages, and we would like to invite any local community groups that would like to get involved to please contact us via email - firstname.lastname@example.org.
"We plan to open the building on a daily basis for dog walkers and beach users to access refreshments and much needed toilets, oh and doggy bowl for our thirsty four-legged friends.
"We also plan to make litter picking equipment more accessible to everyone, so if you want to pop in and borrow a litter picker or two for a stroll along the beach, this will be available and we have kids litter pickers too!
"We do not have an opening date yet, as work needs to be carried out, but we will keep you updated."
