What is the Round House and when is it opening?
The Round House is a well known building on Biggar Bank, Walney Island, which for many many years people have know it as a Chinese buffet. In 2017, the Chinese shut it's doors and since then the building has sat empty.
ZEST volunteers have been working hard over the past several weeks to give the building a new lease of life as a much needed community facility.
The new Round House Hub and Cafe will be opening it's doors for the first time on Friday 27th September 2019 at 10am for a huge Macmillan Coffee Morning; delicious coffee, tasty homemade cakes and amazing views, whilst raising money for an excellent cause, what more could you want?!
Following the coffee morning the building will then be open daily from 10am - 4pm, for drinks and use of the toilets. Food will not be on the menu, until the kitchen renovations have been completed.
Once all works have been completed the building will be open daily from 8am - 6pm and some days later in the evening for activities and classes such as yoga, slimming world, etc.
Matt Blackburn, Operations Manager of ZEST said: "We are working hard to get as much as we can done before the Macmillan Coffee Morning, however we have a big job on our hands transforming this neglected building. We are currently renovating from top to bottom and inside and out and this work is being done by myself and fantastic volunteers. I'm sure you will agree when entering the building, the transformation from dark and dull to bright and modern is amazing.
"Some of the works we cannot complete in time for the Macmillan Coffee Morning, like the new double front doors that we are changing to make the building more accessible, the new handrails for the patio area, etc. This is a work in progress and I hope you will pop in and support us and have a drink and enjoy the view. We are hoping, depending on funds, that all works will be completed before Christmas, fingers crossed!
"If there are any cake makers out there, please help us out by making a cake or two for the coffee morning next week, Friday 27th September.
